Coquet Vets’ RVN’s (Image: Coquet Vets)
Registered Veterinary Nurses (RNV’s) are qualified professionals who complete 2-4 years of intense training (university degrees or Level 3 diplomas). They are listed on the RCVS register, which means they meet high educational and professional standards.
RVN’s key responsibilities and skills include anaesthesia and surgery, clinical procedures, nurse clinics, patient care, and client support. At Coquet Vets, we have six RVN’s. This article will tell you a little bit about each one so you can get to know them better!
Ashleigh Robbie - Registered Veterinary Nurse
Ashleigh has a crazy Jack Russel called Bodie and two rescue rabbits who regularly chase him around! If Ashleigh could have any animal, it would be a Fennec fox.
Ashleigh’s favourite area of nursing is surgery and inpatient care when we have complex operations. If Ashleigh wasn't a nurse, she would be an archaeologist or a forensic investigator. Ashleigh’s favourite thing to do with Bodie is go to the beach for a long walk and an ice cream.
Melissa Rutter - Senior Registered Veterinary Nurse
Melissa has a whippet called Sonic who loves his home comforts, anywhere there's a soft blanket or warm bed, you will find sonic there. If Melissa could invent anything to help the animals in practice, it would be an Infinite life tablet, so they can live forever. Melissa’s favourite place to take sonic is the Lake District.
The advice Melissa would give to anyone who wants to be a nurse is to go for it and prepare to work hard! If she wasn't a nurse, she would be a florist as there would be nicer smells!
Emma Horner - Registered Veterinary Nurse
Emma has a very cheeky golden retriever called Wolf who is 4 in July, their favourite thing to do together is walk along the quayside and stop off at dog friendly shops and restaurants. If Emma could have any animal as a pet, it would be a dolphin.
Emma’s favourite thing about being an RVN is the fast paced, busy days, as well as the puppies! If Emma wasn't a nurse, she would own her own pet shop at the beach and provide essential pup cups to all the dogs.
Sue Joyce - Senior Nurse / Acting Head Nurse
Sue has a cocker spaniel called Dot and a labrador called Finn, they are both 10 years old. Their favourite thing to do together is go to the beach and splash around in the sea. Sue’s favourite thing about being a nurse is seeing very poorly pets get better and make a full recovery.
Sue’s favourite area of nursing is x-rays and light therapy. She loves watching wounds that aren’t healing quickly improve with light therapy, and the owners' relief when they can see real results in a short period of time. Sue was once involved in a surgery where the vet pulled a pair of fancy knickers out of a dog as a foreign body. When they were handed back to the client, he looked horrified as his wife realised they weren’t hers!
Rosie Anderson - Head Nurse
Rosie has a cocker spaniel called Winston, who is turning 7 in July. She also has two rescued cats called Theresa and Major. If Rosie could invent anything to help the animals in practice, it would be a bark interpreter, so she could understand what they want.
Rosie's favourite cat breed is a Sphinx, as she thinks they are like hot water bottles. If Rosie wasn't a nurse, she would travel the world working in any job to learn the language and culture.
Laura Melrose - Senior Nurse
Laura has a 10-year-old cat called Bane. She is a cautious girl at first but once you've gained her trust, she is an absolute sweetheart who loves a lap cuddle (on her terms of course). The quickest way to her heart is through lick-e-lix treats!
If Laura could have any animal as a pet, she would have a field of goats. Laura's favourite thing to do with Bane is to inflate her ego by looking on in amazement and making noises of awe at every move she makes - and like any housecat; she lives for the admiration. If Laura wasn't a nurse, she would love to get involved with wildlife conservation.
