Lola came to us two months ago after her ear was torn during an altercation with another dog. The tear went down the middle of her ear, and there was also a large flap of skin as a result.

We clipped the hair from around the ear, cleaned the area, and took Lola into surgery. We attempted to save the ear by stitching the parts we could back together.
This was successful, and the next step was to dress and bandage the ear to allow the rest of the wound to heal by secondary intention. Secondary intention healing is when the wound is left open to allow healing from the outside in, creating something called granulation tissue, which supports healing.

We re-dressed Lola’s ear several times and finally saw some progress with her healing. Lola was officially signed off a month after her injury and is doing very well.
